Ethics and Professional Conduct: A Summary of Wisconsin Disciplinary Decisions

Ethics and Professional Conduct: A Summary of Wisconsin Disciplinary Decisions

This course presents a rationale and basis for ethics and professional conduct for professional engineers. It is based on a review of seven disciplinary decisions from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Each case study includes a summary of the circumstances surrounding the charges and the engineer’s behavior, the Department’s findings, a citation of the applicable regulations and statutes, and an analysis of the respondent’s conduct as it relates to the ethics and professional conduct expected of professional engineers.

The case studies for this course were selected to highlight examples where the Department determined professional engineers had violated Wisconsin laws and statutes. It is expected that engineers will better understand ethical behavior and the standards of professional conduct by studying past ethical issues faced by other engineers and the Department’s rationale for disciplining them for their mistakes. By reviewing actual disciplinary cases, engineers can learn from the mistakes of other engineers and respond in ethical and professional manner if they encounter similar situations in their professional lives.

Once you complete your course review, take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions to earn 2 PDH credit.
