Complete continuing education packages built specifically for engineers registered in the State of Michigan. Designed to fulfill the entire continuing education requirement.

This package was designed specifically for Michigan geotechnical engineers looking to satisfy all of the Professional Development Hours (PDH) required by the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) Bureau of Professional Licensing. Currently, engineers must obtain 30 hours of continuing education in each two-year license period. Our PDH courses are relevant to the practice of engineering and include technical, management and ethics topics.

Our Michigan Geotechnical Engineering package contains a course on engineering ethics and five technical courses that were selected for their ability to maintain, improve, or expand the skills and knowledge relevant to your area of practice.

Package Syllabus

ET-02-001 Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct – 2 PDH
This course presents the philosophical models that guide ethical behavior and examines the standards of ethical conduct in a variety of situations. Decisions from the NSPE Board of Review are reviewed to provide insights into proper ethical behavior.

GE-02-301 Bearing Capacity of Soils I – 5 PDH
This course provides guidelines for calculating the bearing capacity of soil beneath shallow and deep foundations supporting various types of structures and embankments.

GE-02-110 Soils and Geology Procedures for Foundation Design of Buildings – 5 PDH
This course presents guidance for selecting and designing foundations and associated features for buildings, retaining structures, and machinery.

GE-02-501 Design and Construction of Cut and Cover Road Tunnels – 3 PDH
This course presents the construction methodology and excavation support systems for cut-and-cover road tunnels, describes the structural design in accordance with the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, and discusses various other design issues. It includes a design example that reinforces the design elements of the course.

GE-02-405 Slope Stability – 3 PDH
This course provides guidance for analyzing the static stability of slopes of earth and rock-fill dams, slopes of other types of embankments, excavated slopes, and natural slopes in soil and soft rock. Methods for analysis of slope stability are described and are illustrated by examples.

GE-02-230 Rock Engineering – 12 PDH
This course reviews the history and development of rock engineering and presents the current state of the practice for topics including probability of failure, factor of safety, and determining the acceptable design criteria for construction in rock.
