Field Guide to Construction Dewatering

This course provides crucial information necessary in managing dewatering operations on Caltrans construction sites in compliance with federal and State water quality regulations. It provides an overview of dewatering activities, dewatering management options and dewatering management details. An introduction to the permitting requirements with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) or waivers for dewatering discharges in each Regional Board jurisdiction and the target pollutants is also presented.

This course also includes the process of selecting dewatering management options as well as the specific regulatory requirements for each specific dewatering option including the advantages and limitations. Additional information about management descriptions, costs, available treatment technologies, and monitoring of discharges from dewatering operations are also discussed.
