Instrumentation and Controls

Controls and instrumentation are utilized as a primary means of monitoring and controlling fluid temperature, pressure, level and flow in various systems and processes. This course provides an overview of the application, operational characteristics, and components of various types of temperature, pressure, level, and flow control detection devices. It provides a fundamental understanding of various instrumentation and control detection circuits as they relate to the primary parameter monitoring.

Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions to earn 6 PDH credit.

Learning Objectives

This course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of RTD construction and operation
  • Familiarity with pressure detectors including bourdon tube and bellows
  • Introduction to broad range of liquid level detectors including relative benefits and applications
  • Understanding of operation for various flow detectors such as orifice plates, venturi tubes, Dall flow tube, rotameter, and pitot tubes
