Recorded Webinar – Introduction to Waterflooding Operations

Introduction to Waterflooding Operations – Timed & Monitored Recorded Webinar

Author: Ed Chesny

This timed and monitored recorded webinar provides an introduction to oil waterflooding projects and the equipment utilized to produce, transport, aggregate, separate, and sell crude oil through this operation. The exercise of waterflood site selection involves screening and selecting subsurface reservoirs to match the application. This course covers the pumping equipment, separation processes, and producing facilities and their function. It also reviews the roles of pipe, tanks, and other vessels required in transporting, preparing the fluids pumped out of the ground from wells for sale as an almost pure crude oil product for sale and refining.

This webinar will step you through the thought processes, reservoir parameters, and tools used to evaluate oilfields for possible implementation of a waterflood. How water quality, field design, and equipment are utilized to inject water and produce hydrocarbons from a subsurface oil formation. As well as how the products are moved, separated, transferred, collected, and stored for sale. The course also describes how the associated products of natural gas, BS&W, and salt-water produced to surface with the crude product are processed out and handled for proper disposal – ultimately, providing a clean saleable product while maintaining a healthy natural environment.

Ohio timed and monitored PDH
PDH-Pro’s “Timed and Monitored” courses meet the Ohio board requirements (Ohio R.C. section 4733.151). As required, we track hours and provide a certificate of completion that indicates the course is “timed and monitored” to facilitate your renewal. We guarantee course acceptance.

Learning Objectives

This course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Learn what a “Waterflood” or “Waterflood Operation” is.
  • Learn the criteria used in evaluating which subsurface reservoirs are best suited for waterflooding.
  • Recognize reservoir properties that are desirable for a successful waterflood.
  • Determine if there is sufficient reservoir oil-in-place, adequate water for voidage, and if adequate pay confinement exists within the area under consideration for the waterflooding project.
  • Understand the land and legal issues involved in combining mineral interests, production sharing, and unitization of producing wells into a single waterflood property.
  • Learn how crude oil production is enhanced by water injection and re-injection into an established oil reservoir.
  • Learn why and how to implement a waterflood test pattern.
  • Learn steps used in developing patterns by activating and converting producing wells into water injection wells for systematic waterflood sweep.
  • Understand the importance of water quality, compatibility, and mixing when attempting to implement a waterflood.
  • Recognize and understand the numerous pieces of equipment used in waterflooding operations.
  • Learn what data is continuously used to monitor, measure, and evaluate a waterflood’s progress from initiation to water breakthrough by pattern.
  • Understand the field operator’s role in managing waterflood production, separation, and transportation in an environmentally safe manner.
  • Learn workplace challenges posed by waterflood equipment and fluids, and how good safety practices keep field personnel safe in a remote outdoor workplace.
