Webinar: Slope Processes, Landslides and Subsidence
Author: Michael Penzo
This Live Webinar course provides an overview of slope processes, landslides, and subsidence. Slopes are dynamic evolving features, depending upon topography, rock types, climate, vegetation, water, and geologic time; materials are constantly moving down the slope at varied rates. Landslides and other ground failures result in substantial damage and loss of life. In the United States, an average of 25 to 50 deaths annually and up to as many as 100 to 150 if collapses of trenches and other excavations are included, and damages cost more than $3.5 billion. Key concepts included in this course include mass wasting: the comprehensive term for any type of downslope movement; landslide and subsidence: naturally occurring and affected by human activities.
This Live Webinar course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Overview of slopes and forces that contribute to landslides and subsidence
- The risk to human life ground failures represent
- The economic losses caused by landslides and subsidence
