Structural Design of Pavements

Structural Design of Pavements

Concrete is used in many countries as a paving material for heavily loaded main highways, farm roads, public transport bus lanes, and airport aprons. Three types of concrete pavement used for roads include plain (unreinforced) concrete pavement, continuously reinforced concrete pavement, and pre-stressed concrete pavement.

This course provides background information for the structural design of plain and reinforced concrete pavements. It emphasizes analytical design procedures but also presents empirical design methods for completeness.

Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of forty (40) questions to earn 8 PDH credits.

Learning Objectives

This course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Overview of concrete pavement structure
  • Plain (unreinforced) concrete pavement, continuously reinforced concrete pavement, and pre-stressed concrete pavement
  • Stresses and displacements in concrete paving structure
  • Design methods for concrete paving structures
