Principles of HVDC Transmission

Principles of HVDC Transmission

Author: Velimir Lackovic

Designers must decide between AC and DC transmission. This course addresses this challenge by exploring line losses and their relationship to the rating and size of chosen conductors.

This course is suitable for engineers with a desire to understand the basic principles of HVDC transmission. It reviews the technical implementation and exploitation of HVDC systems. Upon successful completion engineers will be able to address HVDC terms, basic arrangements (six pulse and twelve pulse), substation arrangements, operation and protection and voltage control.

Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of thirty (30) questions to earn 4 PDH credits

Learning Objectives

This course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Basic HVDC terminology
  • HVDC valve group arrangements (six and twelve pulse)
